Built in the 1880s, the original Glenview house and its Norfolk Island pine trees have been Glenorchy landmarks for decades. The Glenview Home for Aged Persons opened in 1948 when the house was purchased by the Anglican Diocese for the princely sum of 4,000 pounds. The Glenview Auxiliary was formed in 1952, and the group had a passion for raising funds for the centre as it continued to grow and develop. Over the years Glenview evolved and added new wings and buildings to meet the growing needs of the community. In 2006, Glenview purchased a block of land in nearby Moonah, called Korongee. A Men’s Shed opened onsite in 2009, and due to its popularity, a Women’s Shed was started up in 2018 which ran for more than a year. In 2013, the Betty Mathers sensory garden opened. This garden area allows visitors and residents to enjoy a wide variety of sensory experiences in ways that users may not usually encounter. In 2018, we kicked off the exciting addition of the Korongee project, which is a village designed specifically for people living with dementia. The village opened its doors in July 2020.
